This
week's "Tales From The Tapedecks"
is by our guest writer Johnny Magnum
reviewing artist GMK "Perfect
10" hosted by Seattle's DJ B-Mello
reppin' both KEXP & KUBE 93
radio...
Who is GMK? That will soon be like asking
who is DJ B-Mello. DJ B-Mello who some may
also know as ‘West Coast DJ of The Year”
handles the hosting and mixing of the
elegant martini tilted “Perfect 10”.
GMK delivers a mixtape blaring out more like
a full length album and boom baps like that
classic Hip-Hop we all know and love.
Production efforts are handled by GMK
himself as well Bean One (Jurassic
5, Living Legends, Dyme Def),
Black & Brown, Eric G (Skyzoo)
and J-ONE.
GMK delivers lyrics sharp that are
in-depth. His cleverness and witty charm
hits with perfect timing making all 10
tracks an enjoyable listen. Wishing this
album was a tad bit longer at times however
manages to satisfy my musical pallet.
Here are some tracks that deserve heavy
rotation:
"Media Driven": Eric G
delivers that hard hitting raw drum beater
with dark tones that lay the track for GMK
to spit his brilliant swag. Lines like "They
now mimic my images my resolution looking
spiff, 300 lines per inch I'm lost without
J-Dilla.". GMK is on a mission with
this one. Letting you know he can rock the
rapid cadence riddle with deep witty
thought.
"Carry Me Home": This swinging
joint produced by GMK himself saw a video
release at the top of '09 that can be found
on YouTube. First thought is not
another track about a chick. So think God
GMK is able to make his point in less than 2
minutes. Attention ladies if you want to get
with GMK he has a few requirements but first
you got to carry him home.
"Let It Go": This dish coming
served up as the upbeat and uplifting track
of the tape. Almost too late however just in
time but then again this is "Perfect 10" GMK
encouraging all to wipe there brow and "let
it go...Let it go". "I'm soning ya'll can't
wait tell you say uncle" GMK is clearly not
letting go until he get his point across.
This is proven by the fact that this
mixtape, "Perfect 10" has 12 tracks.
Tracks 11 and 12 'Drop That'
and 'Dream On' we find GMK
spitting fast, hard, and extremely edgy
spilling his passion for Real Hip-Hop.
On another note, GMK is buzzing on the
National College
Radio scene with his current single,
"College Girls"...
