DJ 3rd Degree’s
Fire Pick of the Week
Week of May 7, 2018

Thanks for continuing to support indie rap music and
the
Rap Attack DJ’s.
We here at RapAttackLives.com take pride in bringing you the best in rap music and the Hip-Hop culture.

Music comes in so many different forms rap, rock, EDM, reggae, etc. And then there are the sub-genres within those many forms. Within rap, there’s gangsta rap and pop rap, just to name two.
This week’s pick fits into what I would call R&B/Rap. A versatile artist, producer, writer and DJ,
Shammy Dee aka Arash hails from Los Angeles. This is his second release to roll thru the Rap Attack DJ pool this year. The song is titled “Come Home” and it’s one of my favorite’s from Shammy.
A beautifully crafted song, it starts off with this light piano and Shammy singing on the intro. The song is about a girl and the relationship that doesn’t go the way he wants it to go. The track is piano based with light drums — nothing more, nothing less. Just a wonderful track that showcases Shammy’s great song.
I highly recommend it to everyone.

Go grab it if you can. If you need it, DJ’s, let us know!
We got ya!!!

Til next week . . . Peace!!

The Lost Scrolls Vol. 2 offers fans an exclusive look at 11 lost demos and remixes from the group's early output, from '96 to '99 when the group was but a trio consisting of rappers T3, Baatin and producer J Dilla. They were quickly heralded as worthy successors to A Tribe Called Quest.

The comparisons, although fitting, created a logical fallacy which in turn, landed Dilla the opportunity to work with his idols and many heavyweights in the industry.
The Lost Scrolls Vol. 2 is a treat for Dilla fans worldwide.

I made a decision to stop smoking & stop doing drugs on April 14, 2004 — that was 14 years ago.
I can never forget that day.
Huge thanks to
Suspens who drove me to the hospital as I was having a mild heart attack. Cigarettes, smoking meth, snorting — it will all catch up to you.
I'm blessed to have survived and if you can relate, I hope you will survive too.
I hope you get my message. Make your decision. No matter what your situation,
help is available.
I’m living proof.

WHO'S LEGIT TO HIRE TO PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC TO RADIO?
by DJ Addition

Here are some tips and suggestions when looking for the right kind of promoter for you.
What are the key, definable attributes that matter most?

Networking skills
One of the most impressive elements of a good radio promoter is how well they can network.
Experience is a key factor.

Check their reputation
Look around online at what other artists make of them. Search their name on social media and Google. Look for reviews on places like Linkedin. Having no reputation is often as bad as having a bad reputation.

You should hire the one that comes across from more than one source as a good, stand-up person. You don’t want to hire a promoter who lacks moral fiber.

Project updates
Do they give you analysis on feedback, actual playlists and charts, listening details, etc? If not, why not? It’s a major factor in your business.

Reception
One of the most annoying attributes of a radio promoter is when they don’t pick up the phone. Try and call a few promoters. See how fast they respond. Do they respond at all? Are they are slow getting back to you when you are paying them? That’s a definite warning sign that you might want to look elsewhere.

A good promoter will latch on like a piranha when you give them the chance to work. If they are slowly taking the work on with the promise of payment, think how slow they will be when they have your money.

Don’t put yourself in this awkward position. Instead, look for a radio promoter that you know can be trusted.

The above points are major factors, but the last one is something
you should think of when making any new connection.
How well do you get on? Is there a rapport and a general connection?
And most important — is there trust?

Fire Pick of the Week
Week of May 21, 2018

Thanks for continuing to support indie rap music and
the
Rap Attack DJ’s.
We here at RapAttackLives.com take pride in bringing you the best in rap music and the Hip-Hop culture.

A few years back, Nas released a single titled “Hip-Hop Is Dead” and he claimed the music had died.
Fast-forward to 2018 — the music and culture are the biggest things on the planet.

When I do my weekly show, The Coast to Coast Hip Hop Mix Show, I get the honor and privilege of playing today’s hottest rap music, supplied to me by artists, labels, promoters and DJ pools. This month marks the release of “M3”, the final chapter in a three-part album series by the incredible
DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Produced by DJ Jazzy Jeff, the album features the talented
Rhymefest and Dayne Jordan (Jeff’s prodigy) on vocals. When the album was released on May 8, 2018, Jeff tweeted:
”I’m trying to make a difference. I am trying to create change. That is why this is so emotional”.

The album's music is what I personally would call “adult rap music”. It is lyrically deep and musically, beautifully composed. Two of the stand-out tracks for me are “Skater’s Paradise” and my fave, “2 Step”. If you are a fan of DJ Jazzy Jeff, you know he truly is a master producer, creating sonic plates of yumminess.
This album is one you need to check out.
I highly recommend it to everyone.

Go grab it if you can. If you need it, DJ’s, let us know!
We got ya!!!

Fire Pick of the Week
Week of May 28, 2018

Thanks for continuing to support indie rap music and
the
Rap Attack DJ’s.
We here at RapAttackLives.com take pride in bringing you the best in rap music and the Hip-Hop culture.

We support a lot of artists here at RapAttackLives, especially West Coast artists and particularly those hailing from Nes’s hometown of Seattle, WA. Nes hasn’t supported a group since Sir Mix-A-Lot until now — Nes is 100% behind our Fire Pick Artist this week.
We are speaking about The High Children. Comprised of MC’s Jayson aka Binary, Jamal aka Mr. E and with talented singer Takeshia Seward, their unique sound is catching on.
Recently they released a single titled “Hold Up”, produced by Robbie Rob. The song, a dance cut with Hip-Hop elements, is currently in rotation at Seattle’s #1 dance station, C89.5!
Following that single comes a new joint called “#Throwbacks”, produced by yours truly,
DJ 3rd Degree.
“#Throwbacks” is a song dedicated to our love for this Hip-Hop culture and Rap music. With a funky beat, the double J’s throw down a history lesson of some of the best rap lyrics ever constructed.
This song is catchy, danceable and for all ages.

Seattle has been a hotbed for music for a long time.
The High Children continue to carry that torch.

You have to go get this record.
Let us know if you need it, cause we are rocking it!!
Til next week . . . Peace!!
