This
years' NBA All-Star Game, had the East beating
the West 141-139 and breaking the all-time basketball
attendance record of 78,129 set when Michigan State
faced Kentucky at Ford Field in Detroit on
Dec. 13, 2003. It crushed the previous record for an NBA
All-Star Game of 44,735, set in 1989 at the Astrodome in
Houston...

Hip-Hop, pop twist by 80 artists who have re-recorded
the 1980s hit in the same Hollywood studio where the
original was cut 25 years ago. Pink, Natalie Cole,

GUARDIAN ANGELS CELEBRATES 31 YEARS by: DJ 3rd Rail ( 21
year active member )
February 13th 1979 Curtis Sliwa formed the
Magnificent 13 who later become the Guardian
Angels 31 years ago. I want to thank those past,
present and future members and supporters. We have much
more work in front of us. I have sent you several links
to videos. Some of you have already seen some of these
and some of you have not. They include a slide show of
the history of New York City from 1979 day one till
about 1993 which is part 1. Then you have a history of
the Chicago Chapter from 1981-2010.
Then I included the reality special we did for the
A&E BIO channel that aired in September of 2009. The
first link is the complete show on the Vimeo
account. The next 3 links will be off our youtube page.
Since you only get 10 minute time limit on youtube, I
was forced to separate it into 3 different videos.
Please view them if you want, and forward the ones you
like to anyone who might enjoy them.

Props
to Atlantic Record's Sam Crespo for hookin' us up
with Lupe Fiasco on our latest RAP ATTACK
CONF CALL. JayForce (WRFG-ATL)
breaks it down on what took place on the call, "The
music industry has been suffering many blows & shakeups
to its infrastructure that are seriously making times
hard for executives, new artists, & even established
ones. Quite frankly, the industry as we've known it is
morphing into something entirely different where record
sales are less important than the personal interaction
artists have with their fans & the DJs that support
them. If it wasn't already evident to many already in
the know, one popular emcee from Chicago checked back in
with Rap Attack to remind us all. Lupe Fiasco
joined last Thursday's RapA ttack conference call
with a number of DJs from all over the world to
reenforce something that too many artists simply have
forgotten or failed to initiate in their overall game
plan.
Appearing on last weeks conference call primarily to
thank Rap Attack DJs for their previous support, Lupe
made manifest that your relationships with people is one
aspect of the music industry that will NEVER change.
Lupe Fiasco spent some of the time on the conference
call to thank the DJs for their support & to also keep
us up to speed as to what is new with him. Although Lupe
doesn't appear to be constantly on the blogs or churning
out multiple mixtapes, though he released one late last
year called "Enemy Of The State", he had very good
reasons in which he made clear while sharing with us his
strategy for future longevity. Lupe stated that the
majority of his income doesn't come from record sales,
but from constant touring. Since the release of his
critically acclaimed album "The Cool" in December of
2007, Lupe says he's been on the road performing all
over the world doing no less than 200 plus shows a year.
The constant touring has had an affect on his yet to be
released new album "Lazers" as Lupe says he's putting
the new album together with an emphasis on songs that
can translate well during live performances. The
upcoming third album "Lazers" doesn't have a scheduled
released date, but should drop sometime this year.
Before any DJ could ask about what happened to the
rumored collaborative project with Lupe, Kanye West
& Pharell called "CRS" or Child Rebel
Soldiers for short, Lupe also explained the biggest
problem is everyone's hectic schedules in breaking any
significant ground on the project. Lupe went on to
further detail his strategy for increasing his longevity
in the changing music business by stating that artists
who truly wish to be legendary should not chase radio
spins on commercial radio, but should reconnect with
their audiences & deliver quality shows where the bulk
of an artist's income is made. Lupe also added that he's
not mad at any new artist with a lack of capital for
signing a 360 deal with a major label in this new
industry climate, but was quite frank in saying that the
tools for many artists to do it all themselves as an
independent are more readily available today through
various avenues such as the internet.
Recently Lupe Fiasco joined several other celebrities &
entertainers such as Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel,
Santigold, and African artist Kenna by
climbing Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro to bring more
awareness to the world's global water crisis. Another
sort of attention Lupe wasn't quite expecting from the
successful climb was the rumors of him dating actress
Jessica Biel who also was a part of the group to reach
the peak of the mountain, but Lupe confirmed for the Rap
Attack Djs that they are not involved but are just good
friends on the trip for a good cause. Ironically the
same day that Lupe & the rest of the other entertainers
all triumphantly reached the summit of Mount
Kilimanjaro, Haiti's disastrous earthquake hit the
impoverished nation bringing immediate attention to that
caribbean country's unfortunate & on going plight.
Shortly thereafter Lupe made his way back to the states
& once he got back he worked with Mike Shinoda of
Linkin Park to create a song called
"Resurrection" in support of the "Donate For Haiti"
relief effort. Despite mentioning that he still owes his
current record label about 3 more albums, Lupe Fiasco
has proven to us that he'll be around for a much longer
time & that true greatness is more than just having a
hot song or album. He checked in with some early
supporters & friends here at Rap Attack to remind us
that he hasn't forgotten that our relationship to each
other is the glue that holds this whole world all
together"...

WHAT'S BLAZIN' WITH BLAZE WONG?
by: BLAZE WONG:
Here
we are again for another round! Sorry for being m.i.a
over the past week as a lot has been going on here with
my transition in UNbassadors Entertainment Group!
Everything has been on the up and up and staying busy
here as always! Just a main point today before we head
into a great serving of my "triple freshness." Stay true
to who you are in this game! Never forget how you
started, where you came from, and always stay humbled.
From what I have noticed and observed in the past 10
years in this game, we are surrounded by a lot of egos
and fakeness. With that said, stay real to who you are
and never let the ego come in play. If it does, make
sure you know when to turn it on and off - This is where
"check your ego at the door" comes into play.......
With that said, let's celebrate! It's Chinese New Years
all! So let's feast big in the latest i like to call the
"triple freshness" for this week! Please make sure you
give the following proper support and feedback and let
us know if you need anything with these artists!

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, BC): "We set things off
right by paying homage to the late great J Dilla.
Played a solid 20mins of some my favourite tracks Dilla
blessed either with his rhymes or production. Stussy is
also celebrating the life of this icon by releasing a
limited edition tee. Various Stussy locations
are taking it a step further by doing an event called
“Dilla Day” with DJs catching wreck to Jay Dee and
complimentary beverages. Yours truly will be doing the
Van City edition @ Stussy at 49 Powell Street, so do
yourself a favor and check it out.
www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=283282069287&ref=ts
We also had a killer interview with Van City's own
Son Real. Already on their sophomore album, “The
Stroll”, Son Real has worked with the with the likes of
Rich Kidd, Eternia, Promise and
more... Son Real isn’t scared to drop rhymes off the top
of the dome as he showed us last night with a sick
freestyle. Check him out at:
www.myspace.com/sonreal as well as the
podcast on
www.UrbanRenewalProject.net!"...
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.org): "Last week I was asking about
where people were at in terms of music quality. I
mentioned that I had been thinking about re-ripping my
cd collection at 320k mp3 until Kut Masta Kurt
told me he was going to do his at full quality wave
files. I received a few replies and all were from
promoters. The Hip-Hop guys tell me that they try to
send the best quality they can get (usually 192-320k)
but that people still complain about file sizes and
clogged up email inboxes. On the flip side, Jessica
from co-sign tells me that her Dance DJ's are
requiring full wave files. No conclusions yet for me but
I'll still take the best quality you got"...
DJ
Luvva-J (KAOS-WA): "DJ Drastic (see
photo above) is the 2-Time DJ of The Year for The 25360
(Tacoma/Olympia joint area codes - and we represent the
rest of The 360 from Vancouver to Bellingham, but mainly
Tac and OLY) and of course this year we were honored by
The Nasty Nes DJ of The Year award to DJ Drastic.
Drastic is a native of Georgia and moved to The Olympia
area some years ago. He is known for rockin' parties in
a real way and DJs from Seattle to Portland, calling
Olympia home. Check him at
myspace.com/djdrastic24 and he is on Facebook
as Damien (Laronte) Carthon"....
Jeffrey Oakes
(WMHB-ME): "I was watching the Hip-Hop
documentary scratch the other day and realized the
importance of innovation when contributing to the
hip-hop community. While a layman (or woman) might not
be able to discern things like Rap Attack
DJs but I just wanted to comment on the originality of
all the music we are charting these days!"...
Mel
Boogie
(CKLN-Toronto): " Lookout for Theo3, with
production from Anonymous Twist. His whole album
is pretty dope actually - feel free to check it out
http://music.theology3.com "...
DJ
3rd Rail (WNUR-Chicago): "In this day and
age, few songs make me take a second listen. Few songs
impress me after 18 years on the radio and a true die
hard Hip-Hop fan. Notice I said fan, yes I'm still a
fan. I got an email the other day from Nasty Nes
and I saw a YouTube link for this song called Most Hated
by Mazzi and Sneakas feat. Mc Serch.
I clicked on the link and was so impressed. A Jewish Mc
and a Muslim Mc together dropping knowledge. We all
complain about songs and rappers not rapping about
anything except ring's, bling and things. Well if you
like a dope beat and a message then this song is for
you. After listening to this song you won't even mind
that Mc Serch only talks not raps during the chorus. Sad
that in the Middle East you have Muslim's and Jews
killing each other and right here you have both races
making great Hip-Hop. This is a perfect example on what
can happen when we just focus on the music. Take a
listen and tell me if I'm wrong?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p47kwS5JbuU&feature=channel...
Kevin
