Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Chill
Will
(WCBN-MI): "It's DJ Chill Will of the
University of Michigan's WCBN 88.3 FM. Home of
the longest running Hip Hop show on college radio in the
Mid-West and maybe the country. Be sure to tune into the
show weekly on 88.3 FM. In the Ann Arbor/Metro
Detroit area or at
www.wcbn.org
Saturday from 9pm to 12 midnight est.
What's up people? Been a busy week with the Final
Four in town and Common and Slum Village
ripping the stage at the Power Center. Slum
Village(DJ Dez) started the night off with some
classic joints and a tribute to J Dilla. And with
help from Phat Khat they had the crowd amped.
Then Commom put on one of the best Hip Hop shows I've
seen in a long while. He also incorporated the DJ which
is a lost art with MC's these days. DJ Dummy
ripped the 1's and 2's with a set that was off the hook.
It was a memorable show with the standing room only
crowd repeating every word. Big shout to Angela,
Slum Village, Phat Khat and everybody from the show. For
more information about me DJ Chill Will go to
www.myspace.com/chillwill734...
Edgie
Kokoski
(WUNH-NH): "I'm just curious...does anyone else
remember about ten years about when there was already a
movie starring Vin Diesel called "The Fast & The
Furious"? I guess Hollywood is really running on fumes.
But I'm sure that it will smash a bunch of box office
records and bolster my theory that the stupid people
have us outnumbered. I'm going to start hosing down my
block so that I can "drift" to the corner store.
Speaking of things that happened ten years ago, M.O.P.
says that they are going to have some new music in
stores. They promise three new albums this year alone.
How about just one really good album? Because the St.
Marxmen double LP "street album" I bought a few years
back made me wish that I had thrown $15.00 into a sewer
grate to save myself the two hours of boredom. Let's
just hope that there's not a joint with LFO on
the new album(s).
Hey, Flo Rida (Rider? who knows) published his
cell phone # and will actually take his fans calls!
Unless his fans happen to own a penis.
News alert in my inbox the other day: "Bishop Lamont:
Still On Aftermath". Must have been a slow news
day. What it should have read is "Bishop Lamont: Still
Hoping To Drop His Album On Aftermath Before His Social
Security Kicks In". The good Doctor Andre
certainly likes to collect artists and hold them
captive. I wonder if he makes wax statues out of them.
And then puts them in messed up sexual poses...
Speaking of Aftermath, I chuckle each time Eminem
drops the first single off his new album as it is
usually a ridiculously wack ditty that people eat up
like cheesecake. This week's debut of "We Made You"
continues the pattern. I'll bet Em laughs all the way to
the bank. And these people bump it all the way to "Fast
& Furious".
iTunes is so grateful that some of you resist the
urge to steal and still buy music that they are going to
jack up the price on hit singles to $1.29! Hooray! To
compensate, they will reduce the price of certain
"Catalog" songs to only $.69. That's also super news.
Now I can afford that Snickers bar after I download
Snow's "Informer" and Gerardo's "Rico
Suave"...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver): "We decided to rock an
all-music show, no interviews, but don’t worry we
definitely aired our opinions on the new Eminem
single “We Made It”, RUN-DMC’s induction
into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, and the current
state of the Vancouver Hip-Hop scene. Musically, we
started
things off with a double shot from the new Jadakiss'
album, “The Last Kiss”. Fiyah! In addition, we spun
some quality joints from Common, Mobb Deep,
Wale K'Naan, Poor Righteous Teachers (RIP Tony
D), Zion I
and plenty more!
www.urpradio.podomatic.com...
Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
"I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the video of
Chris Brown in court to face the charges over
beating Rihanna. This little monster looked like
he was about to start crying while the judge was
talking. What a tough guy. And I like how there is
slowly starting to be a backlash from the industry
regarding Rihanna's reluctance to step up and make this
guy accountable for his actions. But why is it that
people like Puffy are dismissing the incident by
saying things like "we weren't there and we don't kow
what happened"? Newsflash, we didn't need to be there.
We saw the pictures. She was bloodied and beaten. What
more do you need to kknow. And then there are the "I'm
sorry for my actions" press releases. Hey Chris, how
about thinking before you do something stupid and then
you don't have to apologize. What a jackass.
Big week for being a conflicted football fan. So I'm
happy the NFL is finally gonna let the Raiders
play on Thanksgiving for the first time since 1970.
But we have to play Dallas in Dallas. And then
I'm laughing hysterically because the Giants cut
that headcase Plaxico Burress. But then reality
sinks in and I think "uh oh". Knowing his track record
for signing misfits, I'm scared to think that the crypt
keeper a.k.a. Al Davis will bring Burress into
Oakland. And don't get me started about the signing of
Jeff Garcia to back up JaMarcus Russell.
It's gonna be a longggggggg season.
And in squeezing every last drop of water out a rock
news, I saw a Burger King commercial with Sir
Mixalot in it with the "Baby Got Back" song. It
might be time to retire that song for good.
For those who haven't heard, long time Hip Hop producer
Tony D was killed in a car accident this past
weekend. Tony was responsible for some great tracks back
in the early 90's with Poor Righteous Teachers,
Crusaders For Real Hip Hop & King Sun as
well as his own solo albums. And for those who don't
know, Naughty By Nature's "O.P.P." was
actually a beat record Tony put out that they jacked. I
hada chance to meet Tony a few times back in the day
during the old Gavin Conventions in San
Francisco and the guy was alwasy cool and funny as hell.
I got some stories about that guy but I'll keep them
quiet. LOL. Tony D. rest in peace homie"...
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.org):
"The past few weeks have been great for new music. Last
time I highlighted a few cd's worth checking for. Here's
some of the singles. I got to give a shout to the homies
Marco Polo & Torae who are readying "Double
Barrel", their new release on Duck Down records.
They leaked a track this week called "But Wait" and it's
fire. Clean versions coming later this week. DJ's let me
know if you aren't on their distro. Sometimes though,
people are so humble that you don't even know how they
really get down. Take the homie Sammy D from
Public Wizard for example. He also goes by
Parable and is based out of Miami. I've been knowing
that he's nasty on those battle raps. Put Parable in
that youtube search box and you'll see he's put work in
at some of those bigger battles and music conferences.
About two weeks ago though I got word from Semp
that he was working on his EP and he leaked a track
called "Mathematics Of A Dream". I'm really feelin it
and giving it heavy spins on the shows. Original concept
and on point production with that boom bap feel. It's a
winning combo for me. I'm on it early. Hit up Semp for
the track if you missed it.
Heading back up North to Jersey is the homie Stress
down with Spencer 4 Hire and the East Flatbush
Project. Stress is one of the more vivid
storytellers I've heard in recent years and captures the
struggle and 'stress' of just living. I think you can
relate to him regardless of where you personally are at
just off the detail he puts into his music. I believe
his new project is called "Life Music" and that title
track is definitely a stand out. But I can't front, my
favorite is "1985" where he just takes it back on some
raw boom bap. It's fight music for sure. I'll punch
anyone in the grill (ed note: and run) off that track.
Check out stress at
www.myspace.com/reflectiveent or hit me up
for music. Finally, I just got to give a shout to
Blaq Poet coming out of Queens Bridge. His "Ain't
Nuttin Changed, Don't Give A Fucc, Too Strong" single
has easily been one of my favorites of the year with all
three songs getting heavy rotation on my show. All
tracks produced by Premo and an album coming
soon. Hit up Jessica @ Spectre for more
info"...
D-Tragic
(805HipHop.com): "Back for another week of dope
music! I just got a new track by Redman and Method
Man “Ms. International” that is pretty
fire. It is good to hear from these two dope MC’s! be
sure to hit m up if you haven’t got that one yet!! Also
a new record just came in that’s pretty hot by an artist
named POP BANG featuring Grand Wizard Theodore
called “Burnt Down” For all the heads to
start playing. That track is fire and features the
inventor of the Scratch!! You gotta peep that joint for
sure. If you need these joints I got em for ya! Then…..
all of our fam knows about our fam Jessica and
Dave at Spectre Digital right? Did you get
their new priority from DEL “Get it right here”
on Funny Man Ent and that new Lyrics Born “Funky
Hit Records” on Mobile Homes Recordings?
That DEL track is one of my flavorites right now.
Put those ones up in your shows if you support some real
Hip-Hop!

Nesto
(WODU-VA):
"What is good people? Aight the college basketball
season is over. I have to say the final game was WACK.
UNC took it to Michigan State and left no
question that they are the champs. I honestly think
UCONN would have given a better run against UNC, but
UCONN choked with Michigan State. Since we are talking
college basketball, does anyone see Tyler Hansborough
or Griffin making a big impact in the pros,
or even becoming big players in the pros? I think
Griffin has a chance because dude is big and plays big,
although he does play soft occasionally. I'm not sure
Thabeet from UCONN should leave just yet, nor should
Curry from Davidson. I think they both
need another year.
On another note. What is one thing you miss most about
your childhood? I know it's an odd question, but I was
thinking about the past the other day and how much I
missed things. One of which just so happens to be, my
family was broke as a joke, but for the most part I was
happy. Being grown and having "responsibilities" can
wear your ass down. I may be better off financially now
versus when I was coming up, but I'm not happier and I
don't laugh as much"...
