[[  August 4, 2008  ]]

What's Upper?  Last week yours truly survived the 5.4 earthquake that hit Los Angeles. Yo, I've never felt anything like that in my 10 years living out here. We may have nice weather 24/7 but I would trade the next earthquake for rain anyday... I also got 2 tickets to last Sunday's live taping of the "Teen Choice Awards" hosted by, YES, Hanna Montana! Woo-Hoo! So being the nice guy that I am, I gave my pair to my lady & her daughter who's probably the biggest Miley/Hanna fan this side of Southern Cali!...

If you grew up in the 70's like me than you'll remember the comic duo, Cheech & Chong! I bought every record they dropped & I'm sure you will remember them from their classic film, "Up In Smoke!" Cheech & Chong are reuniting after 25 years apart with an upcoming, "What's That Smell?" tour. Can't wait to see these Vato Locos live...

Props to both OPIO from Souls Of Mischief and Jemini for lacing us with their time and knowledge on last Thursday RAP ATTACK CONF CALL. Rap legend and Hip Hop activist KRS One is issuing a call to action from DJ's nationwide to join and participate in the upcoming Million DJ March, by becoming directly involved himself. KRS One's legendary contributions to the evolution of Hip Hop and well-documented work with his Stop the Violence Movement, coupled with the fact that he began his own career as a DJ make him the perfect spokesperson for this groundbreaking event.

"I am a DJ. I started my career as a DJ and a collector of records." says the NY emcee. "The Million DJ March speaks to the longevity of the DJ community. If deejaying is going to survive in to the future, we are going to have to take it a little more seriously than just a party past time."

Founded by A. Shaw, after her many years of working within the DJ and mixtape community, The Million DJ March, far from disrespecting or parodying the Million Man March and its mission, was started in an effort to bring the DJ community worldwide together on issues that effect not just the DJ's themselves, but the music listening public they entertain.

KRS One expands by saying, "Once and for all, the American public needs to hear from the DJ's in a unified voice. There are questions that the American public has for for the DJ and one of the concerns of the American public, for DJ's in every medium, is the lack of responsibility that DJ's show to younger ears. The DJ's I know care about the public they play for; many of them are responsible parents themsleves. It is not that DJ's are irresponsible, it is that DJ's do not speak in one unified voice on anything. By signing your name to this event, among other things, you vow to uphold a standard of excellence in the art of deejaying."

In addition to unity, the mission of the Million DJ March is education and inspiration. "The Million DJ March is a call to excellence in the deejaying industry." KRS One says. "This is your craft. This is an opportunity to participate in the further development of your craft. The uniqueness of The Million DJ March and its surrounding workshops provides an opportunity for those just getting started, as well as the seasoned veterans, to participate in the advancement of deejaying."

A. Shaw, who also recently added the well-respected Harlem advocate DJ S&S as a keynote speaker to the March and Grammy-winning DJ Dirty Harry (Alicia Keys "No One") as a performer, couldn't be happier with her new spokesperson. "I have been aware and informed about KRS One's Stop the Violence Movement, and I think it is an extremely positive one." she shares. "KRS is a voice that rings through cultural and entertainment barriers. We are ecstatic to have him on board."

To get involved or to get further information, kindly visit http://www.themilliondjmarch.com or contact A. Shaw directly at themilliondjmarch@gmail.com...

GRANDMASTER FLASH WRITES TELL-ALL:

*Grandmaster Flash details his life story - from his violent family life to his drug addiction to creating turntable techniques that have come to define Hip-Hop - in a new autobiography titled " The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, My Beats."

"This whole book was scary for me," Flash tells the New York Daily News. "We as human beings, we don't willingly display our skeletons, our pains, our hurts - not the deep, deep, deep ones."

The Broadway Books effort, which hit stores this week, also includes the volatile relationship Flash had with Sylvia Robinson, who signed his group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to their first record deal with her label Sugar Hill Records.

"She did do some things that in today's world would probably get her head chopped off," says Flash, whose real name is Joseph Saddler, "but she did rule with an iron fist and we were under fear with her - although we did make some great records"...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

AJ  Woodson (TheBestJams.com): "When u get a chance check out the latest entry in my daily devotion blog- "Vision and Provision" at:
http://ajsdailydevotions.blogspot.com/2008/07/vision-and-provision.html
Please leave me ya feedback in the comment section and if you feel it please share it with others. Have a blessed day!"...

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver BC, Canada): "Last show we had some legends joining us via the phone line. Firstly, living legend of Hip-Hop, Masta Ace of eMC & Juice Crew discussed his 20 plus years in the game and it's rise and falls. In addition, be on the lookout for solo projects from all the member of eMC including another solo Masta Ace joint. In the meantime check out the eMC album, "The Show", if you haven't already! Fire!: www.myspace.com/emcthegroup

We're had another veteran from Brick City, Pace Won on the show too! Pace Won is hard at work on making that million. As part of the Outsidaz, he played a part in bringing up Rah Digga and even Eminem. These days, Pace Won has teamed up with fellow New Jersey resident Mr. Green for a slamming album "The Only Color That Matters Is Green", which is available now on iTunes!: www.myspace.com/paceandgreen...

Nesto (WODU-VA): "Summer is seriously flying by. Hope people are out there enjoying it. Anyone ever stay in a hotel for an extended period of time? Like over a month long at the same hotel? It's not a good look, especially if the hotel is a damn dump.

Besides that, keep the music coming and check out my homies remix of the last Jay Z (American Gangsta) album. You can find it on his myspace page www.myspace.com/jclyde757. He's done work with Pharoahe Monch, Smif N Wesson, Styles P, Mic Lord, etc.. Click on the picture for J Clyde "Virginian Gangster". Good stuff and definitely worth checking out"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I can't imagine much better surprises than coming home to find out that MURS & 9th Wonder just released a FREE album online called "Sweet Lord" out of the blue. The ten track album is available at http://www.mursand9thwonder.com/, and proves that there are still some good guys left in Hip-Hop.

After hearing his newest singles "Dope Boys" and "My Life" why do I feel like The Game is going to pull the rug out from Nas and be the real marquee major label release with "L.A.X."?

I'm not sure if Brett Favre will be the dumbest Hall of Famer in Canton, but he will be close. What a sad story as Favre tarnishes his legacy and tries to paint the patient and accomodating Packers as the bad guys. Do you blame the Pack for not wanting to wring their hands nervously for a third year waiting for the final verdict from
Mississippi? Although my gut tells me that Favre will be traded, it would be poetic justice to see him come back to the Packers and ride the pine behind the deserving Aaron Rodgers.

Not a good time to be a Red Sox fan. After his latest batshit statements, Manny actually starts producing while the rest of the team goes in the tank. After being nearly no-hit by the Angels, the Sox watch as L.A.'s finest add the coveted Mark Teixiera. Somehow it doesn't feel good anymore having six All-Stars when you are trailing the upstart Tampa Bay Rays and feel the warm breath of the walking wounded patchwork Yankees. I may just hibernate until September when the Sox usually turn it around and my beloved NYG's begin their title defense"...

Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): "It is the dog days of summer approaching or something like that. Had a family reunion this past weekend and realized I have been a hip hopper for a little bit of time. Cats trying to tell me why Lil Wayne is better than Outkast and Ludacris and I almost doubled over in laughter. It's all hip hip though so you have to respect it. The Phillies hopefully will make the playoffs. The Eagles getting back into the swing and hopefully my Nittany Lions will do something BCS wise. Talk to everyone later"...
