Ice-T Releases Special Edition Digital Album

Hip-Hop veteran Ice-T has released a special edition of his eighth studio album Gangsta Rap.
The Gangsta Rap Special Edition is available on digital download now, and features two previously-unreleased tracks, as well as an alternative silhouette version of the album's original controversial cover. Last Tuesday (June 17), Gangsta Rap Special Edition was made available exclusively to Sprint
PCS customers, through the wireless company's "New Track Tuesdays."
Released through PayUp Records, the digital label owned and operated by Ice-T's long-time manager Mickey Bentson, and Final Level Records, the new album will be distributed through INGrooves.

"Like [Ice-T] says, 'Hip-Hop is really on the ER table, and it needs resuscitation, it needs help'," Bentson told AllHipHop.com. "We gave Melee [Records] a little over a year to work it, and we felt the time was right to give the album a second push. "Since a lot of people are claiming to do hardcore, 'gangsta rap,' it's time to see what an O.G. does and how it's done," Bentson said. "Really envision the records, listen to the records, and you can actually feel the records when he's finished. He's always been able to get you to visually see what he's doing, maybe that's why he's on TV today."

Originally released on Melee Records in October 2006, Gangsta Rap made a few headlines due to it's cover: a nude rendering of Ice T and his wife
CoCo. The distribution arrangement for the special edition means the new album is available through all online retailers, including iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon.com. INGrooves also handles distribution for the likes of Too $hort, The Cool Kids, Ky-Mani Marley and even Dolly Parton...

GRANDMASTER FLASH WRITES TELL-ALL:

*Grandmaster Flash details his life story - from his violent family life to his drug addiction to creating turntable techniques that have come to define Hip-Hop - in a new autobiography titled " The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, My Beats."
"This whole book was scary for me," Flash tells the New York Daily News. "We as human beings, we don't willingly display our skeletons, our pains, our hurts - not the deep, deep, deep ones."

The Broadway Books effort, which hit stores this week, also includes the volatile relationship Flash had with Sylvia Robinson, who signed his group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to their first record deal with her label Sugar Hill Records.
"She did do some things that in today's world would probably get her head chopped off," says Flash, whose real name is Joseph Saddler, "but she did rule with an iron fist and we were under fear with her - although we did make some great records"...

Urban Music Alliance is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of the Urban market:

More and more, it has become clear that Urban Artists are being treated unfairly by record labels and management alike, there is little opportunity for them to be exposed in the US and Global markets, and that limited exposure generally rewards the record Labels and Management to a far greater extent than the artists who do the hard work. Urban Music Alliance is addressing that disparity, giving Artists an opportunity to sell their product Internationally at Royalty Rates generally reserved for Record Companies, and with complete transparency.

Urban Music Alliance is a digital media distribution company that provides various distribution and marketing services for its Artists/Labels. Our network of digital retail partners includes all the major distributors such as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Rhapsody, Napster, Sprint, Verizon and T Mobile, as well as dozens of newly emerging outlets. We distribute to retailers around the world and are tapped into the most efficient delivery and content management systems in the business. Our Console allows our clients complete access to view the status of their sales and releases. Clients can view where their releases have been delivered, where they are in the distribution process and most importantly, see a very detailed sales history. Urban Music Alliance is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of the Urban market. For more info email: morgan@urbanmusicalliance.com...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

AJ Rok (TheBestJams.com): "This email was inspired by what i saw last night on Hip Hop Vs America on BET. We are quick to talk about and complain about what's wrong with Hip-Hop, about the lyrics and images that are being force fed to out youth, to our young sisters. We are quick to forward every email about R Kelly, Don Imus and anything else that negative, but rarely do we do anything about it. Conversation is good but its only a start. I am doin promotions for a Atlanta based rap group called Vintage Imperial, they have a new record called GIRLS ROCK TOO! Now I challenge everyone, especially my sistahs who are tired or the negative portrayal of females in Hip-Hop.

Listen to this record, if ya feel it, forward to al your people, post this track on your myspace pages, your blogs, your black planet pages, your websites, put in on ya mp3 player, burn to a cd and play in ya cars, play it for ya daughters and ya sons for that matter. Artists like these don't receive love for commercial radio and entities like BET and MTV. These records don't get written about in your major newspapers or magazines like Ebony, Jet, and Essence. So rarely do you know they exist. Today is your chance to change that.

Now I know this will not single-handedly change the face of Hip-Hop by itself, but neither does sitting around the water cooler or wherever complaining about it. But until we let the world know these kind of records exist, until we let them know there is real hip hop out there we cant expect people to play or request these songs. So I am on a mission to get the word out by any means necessary and the same way we forward emails with negative news to everyone in our address books, I challenge you to do the same with this email.

For more information, for drop request for your shows, your interview request

contact AJ Woodson/ Big Mouth Ntertainment at 678-548-9904 or bigmouthntertainment@gmail.com

You want a change, you want to hear something different, show the major corporations that control what you listen to and watch that you want more and help me spread the word about this track and others like this"...

Bri-G (Mixtapes/RPM Promotions-New York): "The NBA season ended a little over a week ago and the Knicks have already made me hate this upcoming year. I seriously can’t believe they took the foreign kid. The problem with the NBA draft and foreign players, is that every year there’s some guy who’s regarded as the “next Dirk” but at best all he ever turns into is a decent shooting, semi-athletic small forward who can’t play defense and disappears in the clutch…umm, wait, maybe that is Dirk. Looks like I might hop on the Celtics bandwagon for a follow-up year. Honestly, as long as Isiah is employed by the Knicks in any capacity and are still owned by the Dolans, it’s hard for me to route for them.

I’ve compiled a list of, in order, popular rappers who are better than Lil Wayne as of right now. This list is popular rappers only, so don’t email me back with some backpacker that spits flames like “Yo, this dude kills Weezy”. Truth be told, I’m a Weezy fan, but I’m just a little tired of the “Best Rapper Alive” talk. They include:

·          Jay Z

·          Nas (when he tries)

·          Black Thought

·          Andre 3000

·          Ghostface

·          Ludacris

Judging from this, I’d put Wanye in at #7. Excluded from this list is Eminem. Em needs to drop something really really quickly to remind people how nice he once was. I also thought about adding Redman but it’s been so long since he did anything at anybody cared about that I can’t include him in a list of current guys. He remains however, in the Top 10 overall list which one day I will take the time to compile. Djing back in the meatpacking district (pause) tonight. Must have done something right last week. As possibly the only “undecided” voter in the Hip-Hop world, I’m going to try to break down my thoughts on the election right up until I make my decision about who to rock with. I’ve liked McCain for years (he is the furthest thing from GW by the way) and I believe a lot in what Obama represents. So here I am, willing to way both options and go with whomever I feel would do the best job for me.

Obama came out this week and disagreed with a supreme court decision stating that it is cruel and unusual punishment to execute child rapists and supported their decision on the right to own handguns. Both statements I agree with. It’s good to see a guy who’s been painted as an ultra-liberal actually show that he’s got some balls. Hell, if we can’t execute the rapists, we should at least be allowed to own a gun to protect ourselves from them right?"...

Jason-D (RadioBoise.Org):

"I work with people around the globe for my 9 to 5 and often have to explain US culture or news events. I got my fingers crossed that this Shaq "freestyle about Kobe" fuckery doesn't go global. I mean picture trying to explain this shit when just a few months ago NYPD officers who shot an unarmed man a bazillion times were allowed to go free and keep working. Shaq freestyles about Kobe and gets his badge taken away. Damn"...

D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "Whats Poppin Fam! Be sure to go to DubCNN and get that New Bishop Lamont “The Confessionals” Mixtape! MAD HEAT!! AND Move BUFF 1 “Beat the Speakers Up” UP ON YOUR CHARTS!! He just Hit #1 on our charts for this week! If you don’t have that heat yet, just holla @ me for that! I’ll send you a link to get it!! I stress to everyone, Don’t sleep on Roc-C. I will be sending out the new DJ Premier project with Roc-C to everyone real soon!!"...

Nate Abney (WKDU-PA): "It is summer and I can tell because one day I was out in the sun too long and was mistaken for a convicted felon, not to say that all black folks look alike but I didn't know sunblock was so important. 4th of July is around the corner so I'll be somewhere eating somebody's food and watching a free show. Speaking of shows my people JJ BROWN and LOUIS LOGIC will be at the Khyber(2nd&Chestnut)on Sunday night. I will probably be there( I will seriously). So if you are not doing anything come on out. The Phillies have been stinking up the joint lately but never fear there are some division games coming up. Out for now"...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Who said that freestyle is dead? Not when Shaq is in the house. As if having his hit singles "Can We Rock (What's Up Doc)" and "(I Know I Got) Skillz" counted amongst the greatest works in the Hip-Hop pantheon wasn't enough, Shaq dazzled Hip-Hop heads everywhere with his impeccable freestyle dissing Kobe Bryant last week. Shaq floored the crowd with clever and complicated lines like "Kobe said I gave a b*tch a mil, I don't do that, 'cause my name's Shaquille". Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio isn't too pleased though. The nationally renowned ball breaking Sheriff is demanding that Shaq return the honorary Deputy's badge he was awarded upon his trade to the Phoenix Suns for using racials slurs and profanity. You can see the whole clip courtesy of the soulless celebrity vampires at TMZ.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8j1N2ttUqk

On a side note, Shaq may have been confessing to a homoerotic affair as he repeatedly chants "
Kobe, how's my ass taste?". I'm guessing not very good. But at least that hook is better than "Phil is my father". Just a word of caution Shaq: Kobe's house has a blue dot on the internet map.

But good old Shaq didn't even take the top spot as Hip-Hop asshole of the week. No, no, no. That honor belongs to Nate Dogg. Nate, who is still recovering from a stroke at 38 years old, decided to chase his estranged wife down the 405 freeway while threatening to kill her. I'm guessing things aren't going too well for Nate these days. I'm guessing that his car isn't full of girls, and it isn't going swell. I'm even skeptical that he was taking the 405 to the Eastside Motel. But it sure sounds like he is still pulling his strap and laying bustas down. If you'd like to contribute to Nate's 50K bond, please log on to his website at:

Papa-D (Rap Network): "peace yall....happy pre-Independence Day to everyone out there...I myself am gonna take a break from studying for the Mass Bar Exam for the holiday and get my booze and food on something awful....every year my boys, some ladies, and a gang of beers all get together at this beach house a short distance from Boston for a few days of insanity...I lost my shirt in a poker tournament last year so I'm hoping to right that wrong this year....anyway, music wise...I've posted the new Guru joint ("Who Got It On Lock" f.
