Ice-T Releases Special Edition Digital Album

Hip-Hop veteran Ice-T has released a special edition of his eighth studio album Gangsta Rap.

The Gangsta Rap Special Edition is available on digital download now, and features two previously-unreleased tracks, as well as an alternative silhouette version of the album's original controversial cover. Last Tuesday (June 17), Gangsta Rap Special Edition was made available exclusively to Sprint
PCS customers, through the wireless company's "New Track Tuesdays."

Released through PayUp Records, the digital label owned and operated by Ice-T's long-time manager Mickey Bentson, and Final Level Records, the new album will be distributed through INGrooves.

"Like [Ice-T] says, 'Hip-Hop is really on the ER table, and it needs resuscitation, it needs help'," Bentson told AllHipHop.com. "We gave Melee [Records] a little over a year to work it, and we felt the time was right to give the album a second push. "Since a lot of people are claiming to do hardcore, 'gangsta rap,' it's time to see what an O.G. does and how it's done," Bentson said. "Really envision the records, listen to the records, and you can actually feel the records when he's finished. He's always been able to get you to visually see what he's doing, maybe that's why he's on TV today."

Originally released on Melee Records in October 2006, Gangsta Rap made a few headlines due to it's cover: a nude rendering of Ice T and his wife
CoCo. The distribution arrangement for the special edition means the new album is available through all online retailers, including iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon.com. INGrooves also handles distribution for the likes of Too $hort, The Cool Kids, Ky-Mani Marley and even Dolly Parton...

GRANDMASTER FLASH WRITES TELL-ALL:

*Grandmaster Flash details his life story - from his violent family life to his drug addiction to creating turntable techniques that have come to define Hip-Hop - in a new autobiography titled " The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash: My Life, My Beats."

"This whole book was scary for me," Flash tells the New York Daily News. "We as human beings, we don't willingly display our skeletons, our pains, our hurts - not the deep, deep, deep ones."

The Broadway Books effort, which hit stores this week, also includes the volatile relationship Flash had with Sylvia Robinson, who signed his group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to their first record deal with her label Sugar Hill Records.

"She did do some things that in today's world would probably get her head chopped off," says Flash, whose real name is Joseph Saddler, "but she did rule with an iron fist and we were under fear with her - although we did make some great records"...

A Chicago jury has acquitted R. Kelly on all counts at his child pornography trial. The verdict came six years after the R&B superstar was first charged with videotaping himself having sex with a young girl. Prosecutors had said she was as young as 13 at the time. Kelly had faced a maximum 15 years in prison. Both Kelly and the now 23-year-old alleged victim had denied they were the ones appearing on the tape, which was played for the jury at the beginning and end of the trial...

DJ Muggs & Planet Asia just formed a new group called Pain Language. The debut single, "9MM" debuts in stores this September 2nd. Here's the link to download the single: http://caliuntouchables.com...

Urban Music Alliance is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of the Urban market:

More and more, it has become clear that Urban Artists are being treated unfairly by record labels and management alike, there is little opportunity for them to be exposed in the US and Global markets, and that limited exposure generally rewards the record Labels and Management to a far greater extent than the artists who do the hard work. Urban Music Alliance is addressing that disparity, giving Artists an opportunity to sell their product Internationally at Royalty Rates generally reserved for Record Companies, and with complete transparency.

Urban Music Alliance is a digital media distribution company that provides various distribution and marketing services for its Artists/Labels. Our network of digital retail partners includes all the major distributors such as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Rhapsody, Napster, Sprint, Verizon and T Mobile, as well as dozens of newly emerging outlets. We distribute to retailers around the world and are tapped into the most efficient delivery and content management systems in the business. Our Console allows our clients complete access to view the status of their sales and releases. Clients can view where their releases have been delivered, where they are in the distribution process and most importantly, see a very detailed sales history. Urban Music Alliance is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of the Urban market. For more info email: morgan@urbanmusicalliance.com...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Bri-G (Mixtapes-RPM Promotions-NY): "I was going start off with a tangent about the need drill for oil offshore as well as in ANWR to help in alleviating the insane cost of gasoline for future generations and how Obama needs to start showing me some real substance for his plans for this country instead of just cute little slogans or I might end up voting for the old white guy who’s stances I’m fully aware of, but I stopped myself.

I’m in a much better mood this week. Can’t be happier for KG and the Celts for the absolute dismantling of the Lakers. As I’ve perused the sports blogosphere this week, it’s amazing to me that people missed out on this simple fact: Ray Allen, seemingly dead for the first three playoff series, resurrected in the NBA finals. This is the same Ray Allen, who played a character by the name of Jesus in He Got Game. Coincidence? I think not.

Doing the gig tonight that I got screwed out of last week and I’ll spinning be with my friend/landlord/fellow UNbassador DJ Raize as well. So all’s well that ends well I guess.

I also got my second mixshow back yesterday that I never actually lost to begin with, just a little miscommunication on my end. So now I’m doing one hour at KBDS Bakersfield, CA and two hours at WRVZ Charleston, WV. KBDS is playlisted, WRVZ is not. So I figure I can do one, two hour set and send both to WRVZ. With my second hour giving me the ability to help break new records. I feel much better about this.

As I type this, 50 Cent is hosting the Throwback at Noon on Hot 97 and is rapping over classic R&B joints and killing it. Seriously, 50 is going in heavy on this thing.

Only two really annoying things going on this week. One is the Yanks seven game winning streak. I pray the Joba falls down a flight of stairs this weekend and Posada catches a nasty VD that keeps him sidelined for several weeks. I don’t waste my time worrying about A-Rod. He chokes when the pressure’s on.          The other is that I’ve seen too many emails this week with dudes hating on people and then finishing off the email by saying “no disrespect”. If you just spent 30 words of an email basically shitting on somebody, it doesn’t make everything all good when you finish by saying “no disrespect”. I’ve shit on a lot of things/people/issues in this little email and I’ve never followed I up by saying “no disrespect”. If you shit somebody, stand by your statement. Don’t try to sugarcoat some hate. In the words of Dave Chapelle, if you got hate in your heart then let it out. With that said, I’d like finish this off with a recent quote from Ice-T that I firmly stand by. “Fuck you Soldier Boy, Eat a dick"...

Nesto (WODU-Norfolk): "Man it feels really good right now. The Champs are back in the building. The Celtics have won the NBA Championship for 2008, and with convincing fashion. I would have loved to have been in Boston last night or today to celebrate that victory. The city was be electric right now.
On another note I missed out on a lot of money this year with sports. I predicted the meltdown of the Patriots with 4 games left in the season, and I predicted the Celtics taking it in 6, and I also predicted the Giants winning the Super Bowl, but since I'm not a betting man I didn't put up any money. But I wonder how much I could have actually won..... DAMN"...

Raw-B (KUSF-SF): "What up! Big thanks to the Bash Bros. for dropping by BeatSauce this past Sunday. They played us some exclusive tracks off their soon to be released new album. Get more info at http://thebashbros.com...

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver BC, Canada): "Last night on the show we were joined by Rocca From Brooklyn is who definitely on his grind as well as working at compiling tracks for his debut album. Rocca hooked us up with an exclusive cut last night, "Jayniya", this track coupled with a URP favourite "Step Into My World" makes us excited for his release and glad that we are one of the first to support this artist on his rise to the top:(http://www.myspace.com/royalstatizmusicgroup)...

Edgie Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "I got a copy of "Tha Carter III" by Lil Wayne in the mail this past week and frankly I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's no secret that I've never been a huge Lil Wayne fan, but I have been checking for some of the mixtape stuff that he's dropped. Unfortunately, I think that it's another case of mixtape onslaughts watering down what might of been a respectable album. But maybe some good will come out of "The Carter III". For instance, maybe some rapper will be inspired by "A Milli" and use the instrumental to record their own verses. And then maybe they'll email it all over the internet. Nah...you're right. That would never happen. Enough of my tall tales.

I find it laughable that Nas' new album is now "untitled". Kind of a cop out if you ask me. Nas comes out with a controversial title and then pretends like there was too much pressure to go through with it. The genius is that he still gets the "rebel cred" without having to weather boycotts and decreased album sales. As punishment, I think that Nas should be forced to title his new album "Nas Has The Smallest Penis In The World". I think that would make him weigh the pros and cons of provocative album titling in the future.
If you heard the Shade 45 interview with LL Cool J, you probably laughed as hard as I did. But not because of the Eminem prank call. The funniest part was when LL thanked his three generations of fans. He claims that due to his longevity, he gained fans in three distinct waves from singles like "I'm Bad", "Doin' It", and "Headsprung". I hate to burst LL's bubble, but I'm fairly certain that the fan base changed like this:
"I'm Bad" - A lot of fans
"Doin' It" - Significantly less fans
"Headsprung" - Zero fans

I feel confident that SoundScan would back me on this inference. For the last 10 years LL has been like the new American Gladiators show. Something that used to be cool"...
