FREESTYLE LEGEND C-RAYZ WALZ TEAMS UP WITH FRESH FACED
KOSHA DILLZ TO RELEASE THE FIRST JEWISH?AFRICAN AMERICAN
COLLABORATION RECORD OF ITS KIND:
Modular Moods
recording artists break the mold with a record that
explores the art of freestyle versus written rhymes as
indie Hip-Hop icon C-Rayz Walz teams up with
fresh-faced, yeshiva-trained wordsmith Kosha Dillz
for twelve tracks that mix freestyle and written
rhymes, classic and new-school beats, and the frantic,
fast-paced energy of a three, manic 24-hour recording
session to produce, yes, "Freestyle Vs. Written," the
first collaboration of its type.
It's
an album that breaks borders and pushes boundaries.
Songs like "I Love Jews" and "Ariel Sharon" are packed
with classic hip rock samples and party moving sounds.
Boasting collaborations with Murs, Matisyahu
and MF Doom between them, and gracing the
covers of magazines such as Entertainment Weekly
and Source Magazine and spots on
MTV, the two artists are ready to take the
world by storm.
As
one of the original members of the infamous rap crew
Stronghold, C-Rayz Walz has been a fixture in the
New York Hip-Hop scene for years. He hosts tons of
Hip-Hop shows and events, and has more charisma and
energy than most rappers can dream of. But that doesn't
mean he's not serious: he's battled and beaten the top
battle emcees in the world (including freestyle legend
Supernatural), dropped singles that consistently
make noise on the Billboard charts, has
had a video in rotation on
BET
and
was hand picked by Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan
to open for him on his last tour. Walz has recorded
songs with everyone from El-P, M-1
of Dead Prez, Jean Grae, Aesop Rock,
and Insane Clown Posse. But it is 'Freestyle vs.
Written' that sets him apart as a one of a kind emcee,
flaunting his freestyle technique to the fullest.
Kosha
Dillz is an upcoming Israeli American hip hop artist
that has put the Zionist swagger back in being Jewish. A
flashy pinky ring style and gold-star dress code using
crowd moving beats and profound lyrics in Hebrew,
English and Spanish to shift a person's homeostasis,
this unorthodox boom bap-ist's knowledge of emceeing
brings the pride back that you might have once lost.
URB
Magazine
wrote
that Kosha "presents a rarely seen culture clash in
music. He voices his political opinions on foreign
affairs and oppression with fresh rhymes. This makes him
a universal voice.." Appearing live with everyone from
Pigeon John and the Pharcyde to
Jurassic 5 and Killah Priest, he has
crossover appeal to the hardest of the street at
underground rap shows, to the softest of hands at an
easy listening rock show. Hard work has earned him a
rite of passage like no other, being the only emcee to
land himself on BET's 106th and Park while recording and
performing with Grammy Nominee Matisyahu.
Based
in Brooklyn, NY, Modular Moods (and its sister company
Shemspeed) is the perfect home for artists such
as C-Rayz Walz and Kosha Dillz. The label is globally
conscious, working with some of the most talked-about
Jewish and Muslim acts in the world. Other acts on its
roster include Y-Love, Diwon, Smadar,
Balagan and
Yuri
Lane.
The company's (and, indeed, C-Rayz' and Kosha's) M.O. is
promoting racial tolerance through music.
This
soon-to-be-classic record was produced entirely by,
19-year-old Kentron Da Mastadon, who challanges
the Hip-Hop mold, armed with an MP of psychedelic rock
riffs and jazz chops weaving the perfect backdrop for
this Jerusalem Zionist-meets-Black Bronx ghetto
aesthetic.

The
excessive leaks and bootlegging of Lil Wayne's
new album haven't prevented it from being a hot
seller: The rapper's "Tha Carter
III"
sold 423,000 copies in its first day of release,
according to Billboard magazine, citing
figures from Nielsen SoundScan.
With such sales, Lil Wayne is on pace to sell about
900,000 copies of the CD in its first week and post the
best sales debut of the year. Last year's first-week
top-seller was from Kanye West, who sold some
957,000 copies of "Graduation."
Though Lil Wayne has been on the rap scene for years, "Tha
Carter III," released last Tuesday, was expected to be
the album that catapults the critically acclaimed rapper
into pop superstardom. Ubiquitous on mixtapes and a
frequent collaborator, he has owned the No. 1 spot on
Billboard's Hot 100 pop chart for the past few weeks
with his song "Lollipop," and "Tha Carter III" is among
this year's most anticipated CDs.
His last two albums, "Tha Carter" and "Tha Carter II,"
sold 1.1 million and 1.4 million copies, respectively.
The release date for "Tha Carter III" was pushed back
several times because the album was frequently leaked
and bootlegged.
The year's best first-week seller so far was posted by
Mariah Carey. Her "E=MC2" sold about 463,000 in
the first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan...
GRANDMASTER FLASH WRITES TELL-ALL:
*Grandmaster
Flash details his life story - from his violent
family life to his drug addiction to creating turntable
techniques that have come to define Hip-Hop - in a new
autobiography titled " The Adventures of Grandmaster
Flash: My Life, My Beats."
"This whole book was scary for me," Flash tells the
New York Daily News. "We as human beings, we
don't willingly display our skeletons, our pains, our
hurts - not the deep, deep, deep ones."
The Broadway Books effort, which hit stores this
week, also includes the volatile relationship Flash had
with Sylvia Robinson, who signed his group
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five to their
first record deal with her label Sugar Hill Records.
"She did do some things that in today's world would
probably get her head chopped off," says Flash, whose
real name is Joseph Saddler, "but she did rule
with an iron fist and we were under fear with her -
although we did make some great records"...
A
Chicago jury has acquitted R. Kelly on all counts
at his child pornography trial. The verdict came six
years after the R&B superstar was first charged with
videotaping himself having sex with a young girl.
Prosecutors had said she was as young as 13 at the time.
Kelly had faced a maximum 15 years in prison. Both Kelly
and the now 23-year-old alleged victim had denied they
were the ones appearing on the tape, which was played
for the jury at the beginning and end of the trial...

Urban
Music
Alliance
is the only digital distributor catering to the needs of
the Urban market:
More
and more, it has become clear that Urban Artists are
being treated unfairly by record labels and management
alike, there is little opportunity for them to be
exposed in the US and Global markets, and that limited
exposure generally rewards the record Labels and
Management to a far greater extent than the artists who
do the hard work. Urban Music Alliance is
addressing that disparity, giving Artists an opportunity
to sell their product Internationally at Royalty Rates
generally reserved for Record Companies, and with
complete transparency.
Urban
Music Alliance is a digital media distribution company
that provides various distribution and marketing
services for its Artists/Labels. Our network of digital
retail partners includes all the major distributors such
as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic,
Rhapsody, Napster, Sprint, Verizon
and T Mobile, as well as dozens of newly
emerging outlets. We distribute to retailers around the
world and are tapped into the most efficient delivery
and content management systems in the business. Our
Console allows our clients complete access to view the
status of their sales and releases. Clients can view
where their releases have been delivered, where they are
in the distribution process and most importantly, see a
very detailed sales history. Urban Music Alliance is the
only digital distributor catering to the needs of the

**Jim
Snooka A True Heat Seeker**
"Jim
Snooka AKA Dirty Dickens is moving up the
charts faster than NASA's Mars space program. In
less than 4 weeks Jim Snooka's single "Hostel" has
exploded onto the charts and is causing a seismic impact
on commercial and non commercial radio alike. The single
"Hostel" was one of the top 5 added records in college
(Hip Hop) radio, top 5 underground record, and top 5
mixtape record ( May 12 , 2008). " Hostel" was added to
over 500 college, satellite, and commercial radio
stations. The record is presently playing on 150 college
stations, 25 Internet stations and 4 satellite stations.
This heat seeker has also found its way into the
international radio market. It is presently playing in
rotation on stations in the UK, Netherlands, Japan,
Poland, Germany, France, Croatia and Iraq (Snooka told
you he was a Vet; big up to the US Soldiers in Iraq ).
This week "Hostel" has climbed the charts to # 10 on
RapAttackLives, #12 Rap Network Record Breakers, top
requested song on Mary Nichols AKA DJ Fusion's
syndicated radio show (Mary is Rockin 16 stations).
For a company like Universal or Atlantic
these accomplishment may not be a big deal; hold the
f*ck up, this is 2008 the era of the digital demons,
this is a big deal for any company rockin right now

Arriving to quench the thirst of the true lovers of
Hip-Hop is the new inviting trio pronounced ALMOST
SEPTEMBER. Composed of veteran lyricist MC Lyte,
producer/writer/vocalist Whitey and
producer/writer Jared Lee, ALMOST SEPTEMBER is a
fresh, new offering for music lovers across the globe.
The name itself is a foretelling of what the trio can
do. September is the ninth month and is nestled in the
astrological sign of Virgo. Virgo is in constant search
of perfection and although, the three of them know that
no one and no thing is perfect; they are determined to
come as close as they possibly can every time they step
up to the mic. Their first single, “Beautiful,” is a
shining example.
With
10 albums, two Grammy’s and a laundry list
of other accomplishments to her credit MC Lyte is still
making history. This time she decided to bring along
two others to help revolutionize the industry she broke
boundaries in. Whitey and Jared Lee may not be
household names but their talent has touched millions.
They have written and produced for the likes of Macy
Gray, India.Arie, Tyrese, Usher,
Floetry, Toni Braxton, JoJo,
Nichole Scherzinger, Paula Deanda, Jon B,
Steph Jones, Chingy and many more. Whitey
has also won the coveted Grammy and Jared Lee has
received several Grammy nominations.
Both men love what they do
and paint musical pictures within every song.
Their
union is almost like the storyline of a favorite comic
book. The iconic artist/heroine is joined by two mighty
and talented men, who not only understand her but the
mission God has shaped. Lyte was created to be a light
in an industry that seems to feed off negativity and
darkness. Together they stand for real music that
crushes those who have fallen victim to the belief that
talent is second place to appearance and those who
believe a great track can camouflage less than stellar
content. ALMOST SEPTEMBER describes their music as
uplifting complimented by sheer positive energy. Free of
boundaries and barriers, listeners of all ages and
shades and the growing community of Hip-Hop supporters.
Complete with self-help messages about everyday
situations and underlying themes of love, peace and
respect ALMOST SEPTEMBER is the musical antidote we’ve
all been patiently awaiting.
ALMOST SEPTEMBER united while working on an album for
Macy Gray. Lyte describes their meeting as destiny. One
night when Macy was unable to attend a scheduled
session, Lyte heard a song Whitey and Jared were working
on immediately began penning some lyrics. By the end of
the night they had literally made beautiful music with
the emergence of their first single “Beautiful.” The
chemistry between them was so undeniable that they
decided to keep it going and ALMOST SEPTEMBER was born.
ALMOST SEPTEMBER is currently in the studio putting the
finishing touches on their self-titled album, which is
scheduled to drop during the first quarter of 2008.
Together MC Lyte, Whitey and Jared Lee will make history
and leave behind a legacy for all the true music lovers
to appreciate and follow. ALMOST SEPTEMBER is the
newest addition to the Family Tree roster that includes
Outkast, Nas, Kelis and more lead
by Blue Williams.

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Bri-G
(Mixtapes-RPM
Promotions-NY):
"I’d like to start off by sending a special “FU” to
whoever is jamming up my email today with some LGZUP
email that I’ve gotten almost 75 times since last night.
As much as I like spending half my day deleting your
emails, I really really have other things to do with my
time. Please take a walk of a ledge during your lunch
break.
I’m a
little angry today. I’m on the verge of getting fucked
out of a party tonight in the Meatpacking District
because some stuff wasn’t attempted to be cleared with
the promoter until last night. It’s sort of every NY
DJ’s step forward to spin in that area and start to move
away from the general bar/club scene and into bigger
things. I was really looking forward to it, and if I’m
gonna get fucked out of it tonight, I’m gonna be sick.
I had
the mixer call for my station the other day and my MD
was reading off a bunch of artists who have records
reacting at Rhythmic/Xover radio. I have not heard of
literally 85% of them. I’m dead serious. If I wouldn’t
play it at a spot in NY, if it doesn’t come on Hot 97,
and if it’s not on one of the blogs that I go to, then
it’s not anywhere near my radar. Speaking of Hot 97, I
really have to give props to
Ebro
for
programming a Hip Hop station that plays little to no
“ringtone” rap. As far as Hip-Hop radio goes, I can’t
think of a station that I’d rather listen to. I’ll take
Madonna “4 Minutes” over anything buy some guy
named V.I.C.. I still have not heard that “Get
Silly” record and you know what, I’m probably better off
than all of you who have.
Ringtone rap is the downfall of the music industry and
all the old executives who are too stupid to realize it
need to step to the side.
Speaking of old executives, I’m gonna have to agree with
Kay Slay and his take on Jermaine Dupri. Fuck
you too JD, you bald midget. Jermaine Dupri is
the Isiah Thomas of the Hip Hop world. You live
off your past and because you had some success back
then, you’ve been able to trick people into giving you
job after job only to single handedly run everything you
touch into the ground. You have absolutely no fucking
clue what’d going on right in front of you. Stop talking
about DJs and try figuring out how you just fucked up
your own girl’s album.
I’m a
little disappointed in the Weezy album. With that
said, dude’s gonna go close to platinum in his first
week. Guess all those internet leaks didn’t make a
scratch. Nice try guys, but leaking an album to people
who wouldn’t buy it anyway doesn’t really do much of
anything. I was trying to pull together my thoughts on
his album when I came across this review from
passionweiss.com.
http://passionweiss.com/2008/06/10/the-beat-generation-uneventful/.
The Passion of the Weiss is probably my favorite music
blog and recommend it to everyone.
After
listening to the N.E.R.D. album, I can’t help but
think the Pharrell had specific songs in his mind
that he wanted to copy and went about creating an album
that did just that. Almost every song on the album
reminds me of something else. I understand taking
elements of something and trying to create something
that would have that same sound and feel, but some of
these tracks sound like straight jacks. On top of it,
Skateboard P ain’t exactly The GZA when it
comes to lyrical ability.
So
what album and I really feeling? Al Green “Lay It
Down”. I recommend it to anybody who just plain old
likes music"...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver
BC, Canada): "On my latest show we finally got to link
up with Pharoahe Monch. I have been a long time
fan of Pharoahe's. I can't believe it is has been almost
10yrs since "Internal Affairs" first dropped. Pharoahe
talks about that and plans for a re-release of this
classic with bonus
tracks real soon. Furthermore, Mr. Monch talks about his
last record "Desire" and answers questions around
"Broken Heart" single and an upcoming project.
Apparently, we should be on the look out for various
miscellaneous cuts to drop before his next album
releases, which will corporate both his passions: music
and video:
www.myspace.com/pharoahemonch
We were also joined by D-Sisive, who is repping
Toronto and has excitedly made his return back on the
scene after dealing with personal matters such as
depression, death, and industry frustration. He talks
about overcoming these demons on "The Book" EP (Urbnet
Records), which is in-stores now and of course
available online. Right now, he is starting to plan
shows/tours to support this quality release:
www.myspace.com/dsisive,www.aboyinaroom.com...
Edgie
Kokoski (WUNH-NH): "Not
much to report this week as I've spent the last week
battling a nasty head cold which has basically limited
my activities to laying on the couch or sitting at my
desk at work praying to die. I called in sick one day
last week and spent the afternoon watching the much
hyped "There Will Be Blood". I think it's called that
because after about one of the three hours it spans, you
basically want to draw a warm bath and open your veins.
Because that is a quicker fate than the three hours you
suffer by watching the movie.
I'm glad that Big Brown lost the Triple Crown.
I was rooting for him until I saw his jockey on TV the
Friday before the race bragging about how he definitely
was going to win and how proud his son would be. Then he
finished dead last. Lesson never learned by athletes: DO
NOT GUARANTEE VICTORY. It's the easiest way to guarantee
that you won't win. It's like when rappers title their
albums "Volume 1". It is almost a lock that you will
never make another record.
I don't know who invented the Papasan Chair, but I think
that it might easily the most uncomfortable piece of
furniture I've ever seen. I don't get the appeal. It's
like sitting in a saucer. I feel like a giant cup of tea
should be in the middle of it. Several of my friends own
these monstrosities and I'm tired of sitting in them
during social gatherings. So join me in revolt by
smashing the papasan chairs of your friends and loved
ones. If your friend gets mad, just say "At least I'm
not as bad a friend as that kid who owned Old Yeller".
That will shut them up"...
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.org): "So all this hype about Lil
Wayne and his disrespectful comments to djs. Yawn. I
have never understood the hype around this dude. I just
don't get it. Some call him the greatest rapper alive.
Really? Better than Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim,
Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, etc? Some say
that he represents their struggle. Really? He drinks
cough syrup with codeine all day. He calls his boss
"Daddy" and insists on kissing him. What part of the
struggle is that? Now he's saying f%$k the dj and that
he invented mix tapes!? How do people not see thru all
this bullshit? The matrix has you"...
